The EcoLux boutique will sell Dex New York cosmetics as well as fashions from Samantha Pleet and Redhanded Bags.
It's part of a larger celebration at the transit hub for Earth Day's 40th anniversary. New Yorkers searching for eco-friendly apparel and accessories may soon find what they're looking for at Grand Central Terminal.
As part of Earth Day celebrations, the EcoLux boutique, which sells environmentally sustainable clothing and accessories from top industry designers, will open a pop-up shop in Grand Central's Vanderbilt Hall on April 19.
It will operate through April 24.
“It's an open boutique,” said Eric Dorfman, founder of the GreenShows, which produces runway shows featuring eco-friendly clothing for New York Fashion Week, and will also run EcoLux.
“We're creating a six-day pop-up store of luxury eco.”
The store will include designs from Samantha Pleet, House of Organic, and Redhanded Bags. It will also sell makeup from Dex New York Cosmetics.
The boutique, which at nearly 1,400 square feet takes up about a quarter of the available space in Vanderbilt Hall, will be part of Earth Day New York's weeklong celebration at Grand Central.
The week of exhibits and events will also include an outdoor festival on Vanderbilt Avenue, along with short films from celebrities such as Matthew Modine and Adrian Grenier. GreenShows is paying a little less than $25,000 for its temporary boutique. Festival organizer Earth Day New York did not disclose the amount it is paying Grand Central for the week.
After Earth Day, Mr. Dorfman plans to bring the eco boutique back in September in time for New York Fashion Week. “Our 30-day EcoLux pop-up will open in September on Fashion's Night Out in New York City in a downtown location near SoHo,” he said.

making of : look book - the darker side
Boy, talk about lots of fun!
We ended up shooting in two different locations, and with several different models. Some pictures where on light background, some on dark : its the lighter and darker side of our glam rock collections!
Here are a few pictures and some info about the darker side of our lookbook!
You can see the making of the lighter coloured pictures here
This shoot was back in december 09, right here in our appartment in Québec. It was a very relax and fun day : good music, good friends, a few pizzas and beers...
To get the look, we had lots of help :Photo : Dimitri Lavoie
t-shirt : Blank
Most of the clothing you see in these pictures was bought in thrift stores and revamped by us! We made flowing, sexy tops with vintage silky lingerie, added high rise jeans we cut into shorts, and layers of belts.

We had lots of fun mixing and matching both jewelry andclothings , and the afternoon flew by like just a few minutes!
We are really happy of the end result:

To get the look, we had lots of help :

In stores now : Leather Jewelry: 30 Contemporary Projects by Nathalie Mornu

Our jewelry will grace the cover and pages of a new book to hit shelves in April
Jewelers who haven’t yet added leather to their arsenal can look right here to see what they’re missing! Not only is it colorful, versatile, pliant, and elegant, but leather works beautifully as both a component part (combined with metal findings or beads) and as the single featured material.
These 30 stunning projects, made from leather and fur, have a refined and pretty style that’s neither camp crafts nor biker tough. They cover the entire range of ornamentation: earrings, necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, rings, hair accessories and a brooch. Best of all, the basic skills are easy to master, and 75 how-to illustrations - including an exclusive recycled leather and fur project by .tomate d'épingles. - guide readers through the construction. A gallery of work by international artists is included for extra inspiration.

a thrifted life with Betty Jo
Have a great item you found / a fabulous thrift shop you almost live out of, and you want to share? Contact us!

About a month ago i got a call from a girlfriend. Her friend who owns a cool junk emporium called "Fat Helens" (where I have bought many bits and pieces over the years) had a big container of vintage buttons for sale.
I came over the next day and of course bought the whole lot- blogged here linoforest.blogspot.com/2009/07/who-likes-buttons.html
Me and my daughter had fun sorting them into colours in my old set of ramekins.
A few years ago I got a MMS picture message from Helen telling me she had a big roll of vintage lino.http://linoforest.blogspot.com/2007/10/fat-helens.html
I use retro linoleum and buttons in my range of jewelery. It is lovely to know there are friends out there looking for materials for me. Because i can't go down to the local craft store and just buy these things, I often get calls from friends telling me about some great buttons at a certain thrift shop, or that they have rescued some old lino from the nature strip.
I freely admit my business (and life for that matter) revolves around thrifting, scavaging and recycling peoples unwanted treasures. :-)
cheers
Liz
